Africa is the second largest continent after Asia or Eurasia. It is known as the Dark Continent. Some would say that is a reference to the unknown nature of the continent and others would say it is a racist slur directed at its inhabitants.

Pangea. Africa was there in the beginning of the earth, known as Pangea. It was the land mass surrounded by water that split into multiple parts, one drifting West to form South America, The Indian subcontinent drifting East and North creating the Himalayas, Australia drifting east, Europe drifting North, and North America drifting North and West

Africa is known as the Mother Continent. It is not only the motherlode of the landmass, it is also the mother of earth's people.

The original people were Africans who were dispersed to all four corners of the earth. Anthropological discoveries claim one of the earliest human remains to date back 3 million years. They nicknamed the remains "Lucy". Genetic studies indicate that an African woman of 200,000 years ago was our common ancestor. Eve, as the theory goes possesses DNA common to every living person on earth.

In 1990, the population was estimated at 648 million.

African countries compose more than one third of the membership of the United Nations. Africa is rich with minerals including copper, gold and uranium.
