Africa's Future

The future of Africa is uncertain, but it is inextricably linked to the future of the world. Africa has much natural wealth. She is in political turmoil. People are poor and do not have access to education and technology. She is a late starter in modern nation building.

The energy of the people has been directed at removing colonial power, and in the last few decades, the last vestiges of white domination in Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa were removed. Africa is still heavily controlled by foreign industrialists, mining companies, oil companies, and the foreign political clout they wield.

Also, she has the burden of slavery and international racism to overcome.

She does, however, have a political launching stage in a few key areas.

  • 1. Africa has a major voice in the United Nations by number, though the five permanent members still have veto power.
  • 2. Africa has a common political destiny because Africa has a common history and a common affliction of racism.

  • 3. Africa has a wealth of natural resources, though the control and exploitation of the resources are still primarily controlled by foreign powers.

  • 4. Africa has a common soul and spiritualaity, that links her with all the peoples of the world. She is the mother continent, and like the mother earth, is welcoming to all her children, no matter what has transpired.
