Background

The Kritz Cinema in Lansdowne, Cape Town was my father's workplace when I was a child. He was the projectionist and died on the balcony just before the 8 o'clock show. I was thirteen and showed the movie that night. It was Journey to Shiloh and starred James Caan, Michael Sarrazin and a cast of unknowns including Harrison Ford.

I modeled the theater and dressed it up with movie posters and a bicycle, our regular mode of transport, on the balcony.
